Nitecore R40 V2 Rechargeable LED Torch
The Nitecore R40 V2 is the upgraded version of the R40 that has a 20% increase in output now offering 1200 lumens brightness from a Cree XP-L2 V6 LED. The dual charging methods remain a strong feature, however the micro USB port has been updated to USB C for faster charging.
It is powered by a tailored Nitecore 21700 NL2150DW 5000 mAh lithium-ion battery and this is the only battery that can be used and charged inside the R40 V2.
Five brightness levels of ultra-low, low, mid, high and turbo are available, as well as three special modes of strobe, SOS and beacon.
Designed for easy one handed operation, the R40 V2 features a dual side switch. The bottom power button turns the torch on and off with each press, and once on the top mode button cycles through ultra low, low, mid, high and turbo with each press. The intelligent memory function will memorise the output and turn back on at the last used brightness.
With the light off, a long press of the power button gives instant access to ultra-low, while a long press of the mode button gives instant access to turbo. With the light on, a long press of the mode button will access the strobe and once strobe is on long press to cycle from strobe to beacon then long press again to cycle from beacon to SOS. A double click of the mode button with the light off position will provide instant access to strobe mode.
The R40 V2 has versatile charging options and can be charged via two different methods. The first is via the wall mount cradle or desktop cradle which both have inductive coils concealed inside them that allow energy to be transferred between the torch and cradle through an electromagnetic field. Simply secure the torch onto one of the charging cradles and then connect to the mains charging cable or 12 / 24 V car adaptor. The wall charging cradle can be wall mounted for convenience with the pre-assigned holes at the top and bottom of the cradle (fixtures not included).
The second method of charging is via the USB C charging port which is located on the base of the tail. Lift the dust cover from the USB C port and insert the included USB C cable. The other end of the cable can go directly into a standard USB port on a computer/laptop or can be inserted into a suitable USB mains/car adaptor.
With either charging method the power indicator will flash slowly while charging is in progress and turn solid blue once charging is complete after approximately 6 hours. If the torch is not seated correctly in the cradle the indicator will flash quickly to notify of a problem.
A handy lockout function prevents accidental activation and is accessed by pressing and holding both buttons, while the torch is on or off, until the light flashes once to indicate lockout. Press and hold both buttons again to exit lockout mode.
The R40 V2 also features a power indicator light beneath the buttons which will flash to notify the user of the battery voltage when the battery is first installed in the torch or when the mode button is pressed while the light is off. For example if the battery is 4.2 V the blue light will flash four times, pause and then flash twice more.
The integrated advance temperature regulation (ATR) technology regulates the output of the R40 V2 according to the working condition and ambient environment to maintain optimal performance.
