Fenix CL28R Rechargeable LED Work Light
The Fenix CL28R is a work light with a variable output that offers a maximum of 2000 lumens on the highest setting and a minimum of 10 lumens on the lowest setting from a high performance white LED, as well as a variable colour temperatures between 2700 K and 6500 K.
There is also a red LED that provides constant red or red flashing outputs, which preserves your night vision and is good for signalling, wildlife observation, stargazing, night reading and night photography amongst other uses.
Offering excellent light spread and power the CL28R features two rotary dials on the top to control all the settings. Rotary dial A is on/off button and controls the white brightness output by twisting the switch to the clockwise to gradually increase the output to set it at your desired level, or anti-clockwise to turn it off again, and will click when it turns on/off. The rotary switch B changes the colour temperature by twisting the switch clockwise for warmer light or anti-clockwise for cooler white light. The last used colour temperature will be memorised when the light is next turned back on in the white light using dial A.
There is also a red button on top of dial A that will access the red light by holding the button while the light is off, and then each press will cycle between red constant and red flashing. To turn the red light off hold down the red button again, or instead access the white mode by rotating the dial clockwise. Red light can only be accessed from off and therefore cannot be accessed while the white light is on.
Four LED power indicators are built into the front of the light and will display the battery level when the red button is pressed once while the lantern is turned off. Four lights is 80-100%, three lights is 60-80%, two lights is 40-60%, one light is 20-40%, one light flashing is 1-20% and requires charging as soon as possible.
Utilising two built-in 5000 mAh lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, the CL28R has a run time of up to 9 hours on the highest setting (output may be reduced during this time due to temperature regulation). With the light off, the battery is easily recharged by lifting the dust cover and inserting the charging cable into the USB-C port on the top of the light at one end, and inserting the other end into a USB-A port. Fast charging is supported with PD 5 V 2.5A, 9 V 2 A or 12 V 1.5 A.
While charging the four charging indicators will display charging progress with one light flashing to start with before becoming solid and the next light flashing until eventually all four LEDs are solid after approximately 4 hours full charge time depending on the power input used. The USB-C port is also an output and sits next to a separate USB-A output, so that either (not simultaneously) can be used as a power bank to charge external devices such as torches, mobile phones, or tablets. When a device is plugged in the LED indicators will decrease as the battery is drained.
The overheat protection will automatically reduce the mid or high output by a few lumens every second if the temperature of the torch reaches 54°C or above in order to protect the LED from overheating. This will last until the torch drops below 54°C after which the light will automatically increase a few lumens every second, and the mid and high modes will be selectable again. If the battery voltage drops below the preset level the battery indicator will flash continually to remind you to charge the battery, however the light will continue normal use and go out once the battery is depleted.
There’s an abundance of ways and places to perfectly position your lantern where you need it. The CL28R has multiple hands free uses with the 360° rotating handle that can be used as a stand at different angles for a range of light positions, used to attach to magnetic surfaces with the strong magnets, fitted to a tripod with the tripod socket or used as a hanging hook.

Tested in laboratory conditions to ANSI/PLATO FL1 standard using the built-in lithium-ion battery under the temperature of 21±3°C and humidity of 50% – 80%. Results may vary between torch, battery and environments.
